1 What is/are the primary reason(s) for you to make work in the
first place?
It was not like I had a reason. I thought I couldn’t do anything else.
2 What do you intend your work to convey to an audience?
I don’t know how to answer with this. I doubt if artists can control the
content of the work for an audience. For me art is not a message or aim.
It has meanings but they are multi directional and neutral, I think.
3 Why do you work in your chosen medium and format?
I have learned so many things through working with these mediums and
there are still so many questions I have to work with through sound and
sculpture. This is why.
4 Technically speaking how do you go about constructing your
work, that is the image or object itself? What devices do you employ?
Firstly I have sound image, then I look for the objects and space which
can actualise the sound in my mind.
5 Which period(s)/artists/specific works of art are you
influenced by and how directly? How does this manifest in your work?
I like Horyu-ji(Horyu-temple) in Nara district in Japan. It is the
oldest wooden architecture in the world. I especially like the pillars
there.
6 What stimulates/informs your work from the world around you?
Everything.
7 What stimulates/informs your work from your own personal
experience?
Everything.
8 From where do you derive your other visual source material
(i.e. non art historical) and how do you implement this material within
your work?
For me I have sound image first so it is difficult to answer. I look for
objects which match to the sound in my mind so I don’t really choose the
visual source.
9 What are the main problems that you face in making your work?
Making is just difficult and exhausting but I don’t think it is
a problem.
10 Where do you intend to take your work from here?
I think my work know about it more than me. I will see where it goes. |
