ARTIST STATEMENT: |
- |
Neil Hamon uses photography, film and sculpture
to investigate our relationship with loss. Specifically how we
are lured into fictions or narratives in a fruitless effort to
fix that, which is always slipping away.
He focuses on outmoded mediums that lay a claim to being
accurate re-presentations due to an indexical link to their
subject, mediums such as documentary photography and the more
obsessive approaches of historical re-enactment and taxidermy.
Initially the works appear as familiar documentation, but upon
closer inspection reveal themselves as carefully constructed
conceits that question how we are lured into falsehoods because
of our often-fatal desire to preserve, restore and remember.
