1 What is/are the primary reason(s) for you to make work in the first place?
It’s the only thing that I ever wanted to do.
2 What do you intend your work to convey to an audience?
Of course I love an audience to enjoy looking at my work and to find it stimulating both visually and intellectually but I mainly make work for myself. I am interested in the power structures and belief systems that we are obedient to within the virtual landscape in which we exist.
3 Why do you work in your chosen medium and format?
I’m open to using any medium but the format of painting has stuck. However I do use computers and unorthodox paints to create my works.
4 Technically speaking how do you go about constructing your work, that is the image or object itself? What devices do you employ?
-
5 Which period(s)/artists/specific works of art are you influenced by and how directly? How does this manifest in your work?
-
6 What stimulates/informs your work from the world around you?
Everything
7 What stimulates/informs your work from your own personal experience?
I am a British Born Chinese living and working in London. I have grown up feeling like as though I simultaneiously belong in both cultures but also paradoxically not. This in-betweeness has always been a root of where all my work comes from.
8 From where do you derive your other visual source material (i.e. non art historical) and how do you implement this material within your work?
I use the internet and image banks to source material which I then manipulate and photo-collage in photoshop.
9 What are the main problems that you face in making your work?
Never enough time. Can’t seem to work without pressure.
10 Where do you intend to take your work from here?
Wherever it takes me. |
