1 What is/are the primary reason(s) for you to make work in the first place?
Its what I do.
2 What do you intend your work to convey to an audience?
Some emotional response to the atmosphere I am trying to convey.
3 Why do you work in your chosen medium and format?
I love painting. It’s the language that I use and the best way to get my Ideas across. If you can use your mouth to speak, then why would you try and talk through a different orifice.
4 Technically speaking how do you go about constructing your work, that is the image or object itself? What devices do you employ?
I start with an Idea In my head which I then develop through photography, this Is the source and the starting point of each painting. In my new work, I have chosen to keep the backgrounds sparse, so the figure In more of a focal point within the Image.
5 Which period(s)/artists/specific works of art are you influenced by and how directly? How does this manifest in your work?
My main source of Inspiration Is the Baroque. I love the work of Carravagio and El Greco. I also love the Pre-Raphaelites who have been a more Inspiration since childhood.
6 What stimulates/informs your work from the world around you?
Young people, their fashions, music and lifestyles.
7 What stimulates/informs your work from your own personal experience?
My own experience of youth subcultures.
8 From where do you derive your other visual source material (i.e. non art historical) and how do you implement this material within your work?
My life In Manchester and the people I come In contact with.
9 What are the main problems that you face in making your work?
Not having the time to make all the work I want to make.
10 Where do you intend to take your work from here?
It's never that well planned, but I all try to evolve and change things with my own sphere. |
